Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission
The Council with NRSC, Dept. of Space, Govt. of India took up a project on Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission (RGNDWM) for the whole State which was sponsored by Department of Drinking Water Supply (DDWS), Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD).
The objective is to prepare ground water prospects maps and ground water quality maps using remote sensing and GIS technology.
The ground water prospects maps is to provide information on
- potential zones for the occurrence of ground water
- site-specific recharge structures.
The ground water quality maps are to create a spatial data base on ground water quality. The ground water quality information is to be provided in terms of its suitability for human consumption as per Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) standards i.e.
- Potable
- Permissible
- Non-potable
The Project started in November, 2011 and mapping for ground water prospect and ground water quality is completed for the entire districts of the state.
